Hampton University Alumnae, Soror Victoria Christopher Murray, Making an Impact with her Books

Delta Sigma Theta author Victoria Christopher Murray partnered with Bishop TD Jakes, Shaun Robinson and Derrick Williams to transform several of books from her Seven Deadly Sins series into Lifetime Television movies. Complete with star-studded casts, Victoria’s books “Lust” and “Envy” made successful TV debuts on the network in last April. Her novel “The Ex-Files” is currently being produced for television by Tracey Edmonds and Shaun Robinson.

A native New Yorker, Victoria earned a B.A. in Communication Disorders from Hampton University and an MBA from New York University. She started her professional life in corporate America before venturing off in her own entrepreneurial direction and crafting her successful writing career. After initially self-publishing her first novel “Temptation,” Time Waner took notice of her book and decided to publish it through their company in 2000. It made several bestsellers lists, including nine consecutive months on the Essence bestsellers list.

With more than 30 novels to her name, Victoria has over a million books in print. As a Christian fiction writer, she blazed her own trail onto the literary scene. Her extensive list of awards also includes the Golden Pen Award for Best Inspirational Fiction and the Phyllis Wheatley Trailblazer Award for being a pioneer in African American Fiction. Since 2007, has received nine African American Literary Awards for best novel, best Christian fiction and Author of the Year — Female. Her impressive accomplishments have also earned her five NAACP Image Award nominations. In 2016, she won the Image Award for Outstanding Literature for her social commentary novel “Stand Your Ground.”

Currently residing in Washington, D.C., Victoria is a jogger, a loving grandmother, and an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She is also the co-founder and co-owner of Brown Girls Books along with ReShonda Tate Billingsley.
