I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. – Psalm 121:1

Saying goodbye to another year can bring up a lot of different emotions. For some, it’s a positive experience. They feel empowered by the past year’s accomplishments and excited about the year to come. For others, their reflection on the past year brings up feelings of pain and struggle. They may have dealt with the loss of a loved one or they feel disappointed over plans deferred. But whether we seek favor for the months ahead or strength just to make it through the night, our help is always on the way.

Life’s journey is filled with challenges and struggles. Far too often, we look outside of ourselves and our faith for the help we seek. We expect our friends, mates and family members to fulfill our needs and strengthen us when we are weak. And when they don’t – or can’t – meet our expectations, we are left feeling disheartened. But in actuality, we are never without the help we need.

The Lord constantly watches over you. He knows exactly what you need and precisely when you need it. All you have to do is ask. If you lift your eyes to God and seek help, it will come. It may not look or feel the way you expected, but it will come. Find comfort in the message of Psalm 12:2-3. “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber.”
