Dairian Roberts is helping the women of LA County through the challenges of motherhood. Her company, Humbled by Motherhood, was created to fill in the gaps of a healthcare system that Roberts says has consistently failed mothers. A holistic occupational therapy practice, Humbled by Motherhood emphasizes preventative care, wellness, individualized care, and clinical expertise.
“Humbled by Motherhood was born from my own experiences and has evolved as I have pursued other credentials and taken advanced coursework,” stated Roberts in a recent Voyage LA article. “Traditionally, occupational therapists are trained in bottle feeding, with little to no education on breastfeeding. Further, not all pediatric occupational therapists are comfortable working with infants, especially breastfeeding. I have taken advanced coursework that focuses on infant feeding and swallowing as well as manual therapies (hands on techniques). This is what makes me stand out as a lactation consultant.”
The program supports new mothers in a variety of ways, including prenatal breastfeeding classes, birth day virtual consultations, concierge consultations in the days following the birth, and assistance with transitioning to the bottle and solids.
Roberts received her Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences from University of California, Irvine. She went on to earn a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from University of Illinois at Chicago. She has vast experience in feeding, hand therapy, and intensive care units. This work in such intense settings strengthened her clinical reasoning, critical thinking, and hands-on skills. After becoming a mom herself, Roberts became passionate about supporting other families during this pivotal time. She decided to follow her new passion of supporting women in motherhood through lactation support, postpartum care, and infant development.
Roberts holds licenses and credentials as a Registered and Licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR/L), a Certificated Lactation Educator Counselor (CLEC), an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and a Newborn Care Specialist (NCS). She is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta.
